Refine your intimate beauty with Labiaplasty, better known as an operation to reduce the labia minora, it is a procedure that is part of aesthetic genital surgery and aims to change the appearance and size of the vulva.
This intervention is requested by patients when they want to change the appearance of the genitals because they believe that they are not within a normal range, for congenital reasons or related to the passage of time, or as a consequence of trauma, injuries and others. events such as childbirth.
The Labiaplasty Procedure
Through Labiaplasty it is possible to correct asymmetries or remove any excess tissue from the labia minora.
Although many women decide to resort to Labiaplasty for aesthetic reasons, it is necessary to remember that hypertrophy of the labia minora creates problems and discomfort from a physical point of view, making certain activities difficult (such as, for example, sexual intercourse and sports activity ) as a result of which you can experience rubbing, pain, cuts, or worse, lacerations.
In addition, hypertrophy or relaxation of the labia minora can cause psychological discomfort. In fact, many patients see their genitals “altered” and feel uncomfortable when wearing certain clothes (tight pants, swimwear or underwear) and, for this reason, feel “limited” and, in a sense, “inadequate”.
The operation is carried out under local anesthesia, with or without sedation, depending on the patient’s wishes, on a day hospital basis or on an outpatient basis. In rare cases, hospitalization for one or two nights may be necessary.
The removal of excess tissue can be done by using the classic scalpel or by laser technology.
The duration of the surgery is relatively short, and can vary from about 30 to 60 minutes.
At the end of the operation, the treated areas are sutured, on which special dressings will also be applied.
N.B. Labioplasty can also be for augmentation: in this case we can inject hyaluronic acid-based fillers into the labia minora, which are intended to plump the area in question. Alternatively, the increase in the size of the labia minora can also be done by injection of autologous fat (lipofilling).
Possible Complications of Labiaplasty Surgery
Pain, redness, edema and transient reduction in sensitivity are common side effects following labiaplasty surgery. In patients with healing problems, hypertrophic and keloid scars may sometimes appear. Complications following labiaplasty surgery, although rare, could include infections and bleeding.
If the appearance of your lips is a source of embarrassment, pain or dysfunction for you, and you are considering the possibility of undergoing labiaplasty surgery, Dr. Elia Sentine and Dr. Marco Galati will be happy to establish the best treatment options for you.
Recovery
A few hours after the Labiaplasty operation, you will be able to walk and sit, but you will have to rest for about a week. In this period, the application of local antiseptics for topical use may be useful and, if necessary, we will prescribe antibiotics. If you experience pain, you can take some common pain relievers. In the post-operative period we advise against wearing excessively tight clothing.
Gynecological douches can be useful for adequate intimate hygiene.
Usually, the stitches resorb within 10-15 days and you will be able to resume normal activities, including sports, after about 3-4 weeks. After the Labioplasty procedure, you need to abstain from sexual intercourse for about a month.
